Iron, inflammation: In some situations can happen; sometimes in iron deficiency low hemoglobin (anemia) can be seen with elevated platelets; second if chronic inflammation; then anemia can occur (called anemia of chronic disease) and platelets can be artificially elevated as they can go up in inflammatory conditions (called acute phase reactant);.
