Inflamation: It is not uncommon to have red bumps on the back of tongue. However redness and bumps on the tongue and throat means inflammation. It could be from post-nasal drainage to acid reflex. If it last longer than a week, go to your md. Throat irritation from acid reflex can lead to serious complications including cancer.

Depends: The red bumps on back of tongue and back of throat sometimes is a sign of infection and sometimes is a normal variety depend on the location, history and severity of the red bump. The best way is to see an oral surgeon or ENT for evaluation.
