Finite time frame: Antibiotics will help treat the symptoms of an infection for as long as you are taking them. Once stopped, the original cause of the infection will reinfect the same area, but often worse since the tissue is weak. Antibiotics will not fix the problem... Only your dentist can. Overuse of antibiotics can also result in resistance, making fighting future infections more difficult. Call for an appt.

? is too broad: Antibiotics may help control or prevent spread of infection but will not "cure" it. Definitive treatment needs to address and remedy the cause. The question is really too broad to give a more accurate answer. There are just too many variables that come into play in such situations. Antibiotics merely help your own body's defense mechanisms cope with the infection (as does your dentist's treatment).
