Onychomycosis: Thickness of nails could be due to fungal infection. A foot doctor could help. Treatment could include oral meds, local debriddement and use of topicals . Treatment takes along time.

Fungal infection: Sounds like you have a fungal infection in your toenails. This will only get worse if left untreated, see your physician or podiatrist. There are oral medications available and laser treatments to treat this problem.
