Lifestyle Changes: Usually the medications for type 2 diabetes control the diabetes, but do not cure the underlying problem. Dietary improvements, exercise, and weight loss can improve the diabetes to the point where a person might be able to get off of medications, but not always. Follow your doctor's recommendations concerning those lifestyle modifications.

Diabetes: Medications are to control diabetes, not to cure. Diabetes can be reversed by losing a lot of weight if you obesity and sometimes by gastric bypass surgery. Pancreatic transplant is another option.
