Probably not best: Option. Make sure your surgeon is well trained. In select patients a total disc replacement (tdr) is a good option, however you must meet specific criteria for it to be a good option in you. And this is for one-level tdr. 2-level tdr posses a few other issues, and something that you must be advised by your surgeon. There are a few better surgeries for a 2 level problem than tdr. Ask your surgeon.

Artificial disks: There is only one device approved by the fda for a two level disk replacement. It is manufactured my ldr. It is help in place by two keels that cut into the bone on top and bottom of the disk space. They have been tested for failure and they held up quite well according to the fda. There are other disk replacements out there but they are not approved fro 2 levels by fda.
