A member asked:

Can menopause cause pap to come back abnormal?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Sometimes: It is not uncommon for the atrophic changes of menopause with relation to the cervix to be the cause of an abnormal appearing result. Usually, the person interpreting the pap will have made note of the menopausal status as a qualifier to the result. Regardless, if you have an abnormal pap smear (and in the setting of abnormal discharge and pain) you need further evaluation.
