Abilify (aripiprazole): Please notify your physician. Akathisia is the sensation that your muscles need to keep moving ( and can make it hard not squirm). If this is occurring then bendadryl or Cogentin (benztropine) can help. Muscle spasm are rare but can occur. Doctors educate patient about neuroleptic malignant syndrome which can present with rigid muscles, confusion, fever, sweating & autonomic problems.

Yes: These meds can cause a variety of side effects, temporary like muscle spasms, restlessness, akathisia, to permanent like diabetes, parkinsonism, to life threatening such as fever and muscle aches.
