Infection vs allergy: If it is a bite then the swelling could be either infection or an allergic response to the bite. If the swelling happened quickly and it itches then it is more likely a localized allergic reaction. If it is tender and the swelling happened slowely then it could be infected. A blood clot is always a possibility with swelling on only one leg but that is not associated with a bite.
