A 36-year-old female asked about a female:

My 5yo got several bug bites while on vacation in va. one on her knee got very swollen and remained a big red spot for 1.5 weeks. now (over 2 weeks later), it looks like a gray bruise. still about two inches in diameter. what is it?

Mgt: A virtual consultation may be helpful to you and your pediatrician. A photo may be uploaded at that time. From your description, the insect bites may have caused an allergic reaction. Other possibilities include Lyme disease, is there central clearing of the reddened area? I would advise seeing your PCP, but a topic 1% Hydrocortisone cream may help to decrease inflammation.
