Not officially!!: Schools and educational professionals do have a good idea of the symptoms associated with autistic spectrum disorders; however they do not have the full compliment of training, experience or tools that a mental health or developmental specialist has to diagnose your child. You should get a referral from your child's pediatrician for an evaluation by a well trained, experienced clinician.

Can suggest: school personnel using standardized scales can suggest your child is in a high risk group for autism. They should then refer you to your pediatrician because there are disorders that mimic autism in young children, especailly hearing loss.Your pediatrician may refer you to an autism specialist. School personnel like to get childrne at risk into early intervention programs as early as possible
