A member asked:

Is a child with autism better off in public or private school?

Depends on level & $: Cold hard cash is usually the primary barrier to this debate. A child with autism does not necessarily change this discrepancy. Quality of education varies widely between both private and public schools in reality. Look for excellence in teacher training and high educational standards.

The schools differ: Private schools differ from public in that they are generally not required to provide special services to learning impaired kids. Some may do so but bare the cost without the federal/state subsidy used by the public sector. In some districts you can obtain special services in from a public system & still attend private school, but this becomes a logistical problem.Check local available programs.
