Less than 5%: For people without risk factors, the risk of kidney cancer is less than 5%. Risk factors include smoking, obesity, renal failure, family history, certain familial syndromes, and hypertension. The most common way kidney cancer presents is asymptomatically on an x-ray for another reason. Symptoms and signs of kidney cancer include blood in the urine, flank pain, weight loss, or a flank mass.
