When tolerate: Wait until any of the early side effects (eg increased arousal state with insomnia/ anxiety) have gone away plus a few more days. To reduce the early insomnia, best to split the dose (eg Lexapro (escitalopram) 5mg 1/4 tab in am and 1/4 tab in afternoon). Also, the more you take later in the day, the worse the insomnia. If these tips do not help, call your doctor.

Talk to doctor.: I have prescribed Lexapro (escitalopram) for many years, and never at such a low dose. Either you have the dose written incorrectly, or you may be taking a different medication. If it indeed is Lexapro (escitalopram) you are taking, then you need to talk with your treating physician, as this is a very low dose. In my practice, i start my patients on 10mgs once daily, and increase to 20 mgs in about one week.

Lexapro (escitalopram): Lexapro is prescribed at 10 mg once a day, and it could be increased from 2.5 mg to 5 mg in several days without complications. You can take it in the morning or at night, better if with meals to improve absorption. Rarely Lexapro will help your sleep, which can be disrupted because of the depression, or other reasons. If you need, use Benadryl (diphenhydramine) or melatonin, and tell your doctor about it.
