Physical exam: Look for an orthopedic surgeon to do a detailed physical exam - that will help determine whether a rotator cuff tear or a labral injury is suspected. Those are the two most common causes of shoulder pain. Then inexpensive pain control can be targeted to one or both conditions. After that, look to buy an inexpensive health plan that will cover an MRI and or shoulder surgery after oct 1.

No more than $1000: >$2000 = hospital pricing $1000-2000 = should be able to negotiate a hospital into this price. $1000 = typical outpatient imaging center cash price. $750 = reasonable outpatient cash price. $500 = low price. <$500 = avoid ideally, 1.5t MRI scanner is used for this. 0.7t MRI will produce good quality images. Avoid 0.3t MRI scanners.
