Med eval.: There could be a number of reasons for that pain. If it isn't resolving, consider an evaluation by a podiatrist.

Too much, too soon?: Really tough to say over the computer. Maybe you did too much, too soon, without proper stretching before exercises and that caused your ankle sprain./strain to occur. If the pain persists, have a dr. Check you out and give you a proper time line and treatment before you return to the treadmill. Good luck.
