Location, quality: Tooth pain more constant and located in the tooth. Pain intensity not usually severe. Direct pressure on the tooth makes the pain worse. Tn pain - severe stabbing pain usually in a larger area of cheek/gums. Activities unrelated to the teeth (talking, whistling etc) may trigger the pain. Tn usually gets better on tegretol, toothaches do not respond to tegretol.

Can be: Can be quite similar at first. Trigeminal neuralgia is much more easily triggered by slight stimuli, like like touch to cheek, wind blowing on face, etc.
