A member asked:

Can an impacted wisdom tooth make you experience symptoms similar to trigeminal neuralgia? i am experiencing this now and it's strictly only on the left side of my face and is triggered by either chewing or yawning and my medical anxiety is no help?

Dental problems and temporomandibular joint issues are part of the differential diagnosis of facial pain syndromes. Your dentist can best answer your question concerning your impacted wisdom tooth

The pain of trigeminal neuralgia is paroxysmal lasting a few seconds at most, with an intense sharp lancinating, and immobilizing pain. Multiple separate daily episodes can occur. Facial pain secondary to dental or jaw issues results in very different patterns and lengthier and more constant painful experiences. A dentist can help.
