I keep getting yeast infections and it seems like monistat and diflucan (fluconazole) are not doing anything anymore. any suggestions why and what to do?

Testing: There is a vaginal culture that you can do that will see if you are dealing with a strain of yeast that is resistant to the meds that you have tried. There are also some other tricks your doctor could try gentian violet or boric acid for example.
