Complex pain- hope: Pain is very complex and our understanding of it has come a long way, but we still have so far to go. Imaging and other tests often times don't diagnose the source of pain, but only point towards potential sources. Many conditions (like fibromyalgia) we simply do not understand or have tests to diagnose yet. Other diseases like disc pain may have normal appearing MRI and abnormal discogram.

Chronic pain: Pain is very complex issues and many painful conditions are not well-understood. Radiological and nerve studies are use to identify potential sources of pain. However, we don't have tests to diagnose several painful conditions, such as fibromyalgia, generalized body pain. If you feel frustrated with the current treatment, you can always get a second opinion.
