A member asked:

Is it right to give cefozalin, manit, magnesium via iv for viral meningitis? i am in developing country. doctors not explaining here- can't trust

Questionable.: Cefazolin is a reasonable (but not the first) choice for bacterial meningitis; mannitol for increased intracranial pressure (rare with viral meningitis;) and not sure about magnesium. Need to know more before judging, but this is questionable at least.

Viral meningitis: If you have viral meningitis, there are no antibiotics that are effective in treating your condition. Manitol is given to reduce the brain swelling. You need to have the treating doctor explain the treatment plan. If you are not satisfied, seek a second opinion.
