Expert! Please reply: I am not an expert. I hope one replies - i did, however, have dental implant following bone graft. There was quite a long wait in order for bone to stabilize. It was very successful and there has been no problem now for 8 years. Ask for other opinions in your area, my information may be out of date but i think you are right to be concerned.

Multiple procedures: It is customary to combine bone grafting and implant procedures where applicable. It is completely safe. Where there is sufficient bone to create initial implant stability, bone grafts and implant placement is done at the same time. If there isn't enough bone to stabilize the implant, the bone grafts will be done first, allowed to mature for a few months and then the implants are placed.

Yes it's safe 6-9 mo: Many surgeons place implants and graft at the same time with success. The type of defect often determines how long you must wait before placing implants. If the surgeon can achieve primary stability when placing the implant, a bone graft can be done concurrently.
