Ear fluid: If the eardrum is completely intact, fluid should not get through it. If there is a small hole or perforation, then fluid could certainly get through. Also, some people have small weak areas of the drum that could easily be disrupted to allow fluid to pass. Infection can also erode the ear drum such that fluid can get through. These are all uncommon problems, though.
