It can: This can occur. If you have a hiatal hernia that is causing irritation after you eat, you can have referred pain in your left shoulder or axilla (armpit) area. You may need an upper GI series or endoscopy to make sure you are not having any other issues such as progressing barretts esophagus or any other issues. Hope this helps!
