Need periodic eye: Exam. If retina and visual field changes then the maximum dose age is reached. This usually happens after years of treatment with the medicine. There is a maximum dose age when your doctor will reevaluate the need or efficacy of the medicine.

Maybe: You can stay on Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) as long as your regular eye checks are ok. You need to get a retinal exam and a special visual field test from your specialist eye md (ophthalmologist), normally every 6 months but more often if there is some concern. Most people do fine on Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) and have no problems. Glad it is helping!
