why does my stomach still growl after i eat a full meal?

My stomach growls obnoxiously loud, often during class or other silent activities, even when i eat a full meal. What causes this?

Stomach Basics: The stomach is a large sac located just below your diaphragm at the end of a tube called the esophagus which connects your mouth to the stomach. The stomach's job is to begin the process of breaking down what we eat and drink into smaller pieces that can pass into the intestine and then be absorbed into the body. Digestion and absorption remove nutrients and we pass what is not absorbed.

Abdomen; complex: Just past the food pipe (esophagus) and right before the duodenum (first part of small intestine). Upper left side of abdomen. Works as a reservoir (stores food from a meal), produces acid to kill germs and help digestion, grinds food into small particles for the intestine, allows for vitamin B12 to get absorbed from food, makes enzymes to start digestion of proteins, etc. A vital organ.

Yes, but . . .: A heartbeat or pulse can be felt in many places with certain activities. However, if a person feels a large pulsation in the stomach or abdomen (especially if he's been resting), the concern is an aneurysm of the aorta. If the aorta keeps enlarging and breaks open, the person will die. The aorta problem (AAA) is easily detected on an ultrasound scan, and is potentially fatal if not corrected.

Yes : See dr. Kwok's answer for a serious caution. But most people if paying attention - and if normal or slim - will be able to feel their aortic pulse. Especially at night when lying quietly.

Not processed!: There is no guarantee of getting a flat stomach. I would stay away from processed foods. Look at what, when and how you eat. The fda guidelines are quite good. If you're looking at losing more than a few pounds, i would do this in a medically supervised program. Dr. David kessler's books about foods are excellent.

Exercise: No specific food will give you a flat stomach. A healthy low fat diet with plenty of exercise will, though.

Essentially nothing: The distal stomach may atrophy some as a result of food not regularly passing through it but it will continue to produce some acid and enzymes that will help with digestion further down the GI tract.

Red bumps: If you mean tiny red bumps that are permanent, they may be harmless cherry hemangiomas which are blood vessel growths that run in families. They can be removed but there is no reason to do so. If you mean a rash that just came on suddenly, it could be many things such as folliculitis which is an infection or irritation of hair follicles openings.
