Antitrypsin: Alpha-1 antitrypsin is a normal blood protein that keeps some of the products of your neutrophils from harming your tissues more than they need to. If you're seriously deficient, you'll develop emphysema in midlife, and at some time in your life may develop serious liver function problems. One serious pitfall is assaying the levels during concurrent illness; they may be misleading. Good luck.
