A member asked:

What's the maximum amount of fiber a person should have on a daily basis? is it true that it's between 25 and 40?

No maximum: The basic rda for fiber is 25 grams/day for women and 38 grams/day for men this is based on a formula of 14 grams/1000 calories consumed note that the average american only gets 15 grams/day there is no upper limit except in a few disorders like diverticulitis however taking large amounts of fiber with insufficient water can cause constipation and intestinal blockage.

Fiber: Recommendation is 20 - 35 grams dietary fiber per day for a healthy adult, depending on the amount of calorie intake. In children, the amount is the age in years plus 5 grams per day (for example a 4 year old needs 9 grams daily).
