Tooth abscess: The antibiotic should start working within a day or 2, so take pain killers and antiinflammatory medications in the mean time.

Drained the abscess?: Hopefully your dentist drained the abscess? Otherwise antibiotics will only slow its growth. Can get local spread with increased pain, which will take about 3 days to improve. Local warm compresses (hot wash rag) to area will help as well. If pain continues to increase or starts to hurt to move eye (up/down, l/r), then need er visit, but rare. Can call dentist if need pain med also.

Hopefully your Dentist has plans on how to follow up the mystery swelling, as if not, may need to get referral (or just go to) a Dental Surgeon or ENT Dr for further evaluation and management.

Not clear: It is not clear wether you had your tooth extracted or not. For your infection to completely clear you have get your tooth extracted and antibiotics by themselves will not help. See your dentist or an oral surgoen.

From 1-7 days: Assuming the correct antibiotic [different infections have a different causative agent and not all antibiotics work against all germs] . If after a couple of days the swelling does not go down, inform your dentist and have him use another antibiotic.
