A member asked:

What are warts? virus infections? if so, how come a wart doesn't keep spreading wider until one covers your whole hand?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The wart virus: Warts are caused by various strains of human papilloma virus(hpv). There are more than 60 strains and a few are linked with cervical and other cancers. Our immune system helps keep them in check, so it's rare for them to cover an entire hand. People with problems of the immune system often have much more trouble with warts. Wart treatments depend on immune system help to clear warts.
