Wound: That depends. In most instances wounds that have open longer periods of time, are highly contaminated with soil or water from a lake or stream have to be thoroughly cleansed and evaluated prior to being closed. If it cannot then it can heal from inside out.

Need an evaluation: If it is a deep cut, there may be damage to nerves and/or tendons. If more than about 8 hours old, it should not be stitched because of the risk of infection. I would suggest seeing a doctor for an evaluation.
