What is tdap and dtap, and why is the difference needed?

Age: They are used for different age groups. Dtap is a dose to be given to infants and young children. The tdap is used for a booster shot for the teenager and adults. Both are to protect against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis.

Immune response: The DTaP (big D) signifies a full dose of diphtheria antigen along with the other components, which is given to the child's emerging immune system to stimulate the immune system. The TdaP (little d) represents a vaccine with less diphtheria antigen, because a kids dose would bring on more side effects but not more protection.
