Tdap (with the acellular pertussis component) is the adult formulation. The acellular pertussis vaccine, developed and given now for decades does not have the side effect problem of the old whole cell Pertussis vaccine we used before the 90's. It is often given in preparation for pregnancy or to expectant families to protect the newborn. It does not interfere with the Covid vaccine effectiveness.

This vaccine is given at age 11 in most US states for entry to middle school. Then it is given as a booster every 10 years, but often given after 5 years, especially if unknown when last dose was.

A 24-year-old member asked:
Is it safe for pregnant women to get the measles vaccine?

MMR after delivery: The measles vaccine (MMR) is a live-virus vaccine, so it is not given to pregnant women or to women just about to become pregnant. It can be given to the mom after her baby is born.

There have been many reports of MMR given when moms did not know they were pregnant with no negative outcomes. However, as Dr Kwok states, we do not willingly give this live virus vaccine during pregnancy out of a sense of caution.

My 2 year old son is with fever for one day and running nose for 5 days. What should I try?

Check-up: How high is fever? What colors is drainage from nose? There could be many causes. Illness in children is most likely a virus and symptomatic control is usually all that is needed. I would advise you to a make an appointment with his pediatrician if you are concerned.

A 21-year-old female asked:
2 days late for my period, used condom with pull out method, could I be pregnant?

You might be: Condoms are not very effective by themselves because there is leakage around the base or they may leak. The pull out method is also very unreliable. We call people who count on the pull out method 'parents'. Check a pregnancy test in a few days. Check again 3-4 days after that as well to be sure.

2 days late for my period, we used a condom and he pulled out while still wearing it before ejaculating can I be pregnant?

Check a HPT: 2 days-late is common and so it is difficult to tell. You may want to do a home pregnancy test which is easy to do, fast, and quite accurate. If negative, waite 5-7 days and repeat and if still negative, likely it is negative. If positive, congrats and good luck.

Last night I had major tingling all over the palm or my right hand. I do computer based work all day and ipad at night. Is this carpal..?

Hand numbness: There is a good chance that what you are describing is carpal tunnel syndrome. If this continues wear a wrist splint at night. If this does not solve the numbness then you need to discuss this with your doctor.
