A crown: Merely protects the (defective) tooth returning it to one of normal form and function. The tooth is prepared (reduced) in all dimensions to allow for a crown to cover it. It should essentially feel, look and function like a natural tooth. Hope this helps.

Crowns: When done correctly it should feel pretty much like a regular tooth. Initially it may have a different feel to your tongue or to bite but will become normal fairly soon. Make sure you need a crown though. A lot of times they are over kill, when a more conservative restoration can be done, like an onlay. Many times aggressive crowns can lead to root canals.
