Calling all dentists! could i whiten my teeth before i get them straightened?

Of course: You can certainly do this. You may wish to have your teeth whitened via otc products, or have them professionally whitened. However, depending on the severity of the crowding you have, i'd be careful. The reason is this......If you're teeth are severely crooked, then whitening your teeth is not only more difficult, it may attract more attention to your smile. If this is the case, i'd wait.

Yes: Having brackets on may slightly affect the shade of your teeth, especially if you are not real thorough in cleaning your teeth every day. I there fore always recommend waiting until after the braces are removed to have a more uniform color to the teeth.
