OK to sleep - now: Concussion means temporary loss of function but not a physical brain injury. Sleep actually helps with recovery. Worried about a delayed brain swelling or bleeding while asleep? They are very rare. Still worried and want to play it safe? Ask friend or family member to stay over and wake you up every 2 hrs for brief checkup: "state the date, name the president, move your hands/feet etc....".

Sleep after concussi: The concept of not letting a person sleep after a concussion to protect them from further damage, is no longer thought to be true. If you have been seen by a doctor and evaluated, especially after having a cat scan or mri, then being allowed to go to sleep is routine.
