A member asked:

When you wake up someone to check for a concussion, what are you looking for? especially a child, he's very unhappy when i wake him and wants to sleep

Orientation: Basically all you are looking for is if the child is oriented to time place and person, and if he/ she is acting normally. Usually post concussion presents itself with severe headache and short term memory loss.

I don't: Adults are awakened to document their orientation to place/time/event but this is unnecessary & I think unnecessary in kids or infants. Kids will wake up throwing up if they have an issue. You can check them while asleep every 2-3 hours with a flashlight. If they are sleeping & breathing normally & have not thrown up, they are fine.
