Antibiotics: Generally, oral or IV antibiotics will work fine for it. However, if not improving, may need surgical drainage, particularly if you have a stone in the gland or duct.

Viral or bacterial: If the gland is infected by bacteria then it can be treated with antibiotics. The method of application( oral, IV or im) will be up to your physcian. Viral infections cannot be treated with these medications. The symptoms are treated until the viral infection takes it course. See your md.
