Many causes: There could be a coagulation problem, certain blood thinning medications could predispose, congenital conditions such as an aneurysm, tumors, also trauma.

Berry aneurysm: A leaking berry aneurysm or arteriovenous malformation are the causes. Both are inherited conditions.
