High vs low risk: Situations. High risk situations may warrant post-exposure prophylaxis, low risk situations may not. Does the dog appear ill or is it behaving oddly. Was the bite provoked? If the dog was domesticated – has it been vaccinated for rabies? Your doctor can check with your state department of health for further guidance if needed.
