Use excellent sleep: Hygiene. 1. Keep a regular bedtime & wakening time (to include weekends). Get up the same time each day, regardless of what time you fell asleep. 2. Make a regular, relaxing bedtime routine. Relaxing rituals prior to bedtime may include a warm bath or shower, aromatherapy, reading, or listening to gentle music. 3. Sleep in a dark, quiet, cool room on comfortable mattress & pillows.

Depends on the cause: There are many different reasons for not sleeping through the nite, including use of caffeine and alcohol earlier in the day, side effects of meds, anxiety, low blood sugar at nite, uncomfortable mattress, sleep apnea etc. Try "sleep hygiene" first: http://umm.Edu/programs/sleep/patients/sleep-hygiene the Amino Acids glycine and 5-htp improve sleep quality . Consider seeing a sleep specialist.
