Wearing glasses: Needing glasses is a refractive error & not a disease. As long as vision is 20/20 without other pathology the eye normal. Mothers usually become too sensitive once a child needs glasses, it is a myth having weak eyes if only glasses are needed. There is a variety of procedures too reduce the amount of glasses: 1. Exercises 2. Atropine and bifocals. 3. Orthokeratology. None is recommended.

It depends: Glasses are given to children for many reasons. Sometimes it is for eye crossing or to help fix a "lazy eye" or amblyopia. Many of these children "outgrow" their glasses when they become teens due to eye growth. Many do not. Most children with significant nearsightedness or astigmatism will always need optical correction to see optimally.
