A member asked:

I have dental consultation reports from a periodontist, oral-maxillo facial surgeon, and a full mouth series x-rays from a general dentist. who would be the coordinator for the treatment?

The general DDS: The general dentist is usually the "coordinator" but all have equally important input and should be in consult with each other.

General dentist: Generally your general dentist is the one who coordinates your treatment so all of your specialist work together and provide you the best treatment possible. Choose a group that works together.

Treatment planning: Generally it's your gd or prosthodontist who coordinate treatment. However, first you have to really trust the knowledge & experience of your dentist. The specific issues or main concern also plays a factor here. For example, if you have serious gum disease, the periodontist should take the first lead. For implant placement, the gp\pros should dictate placement within reason. All on same page!

The restoring Dr.: The doctor who is eventually going to restore your teeth (provide you with the final desired result), is the doctor who should coordinate with the other doctors.
