Yes: Sleep apnea is when you stop or have interrupted breathing during sleep. Snoring is a sign or symptom of sleep apnea but not the cause. Waking up is a result of the apnea but does not happen all of the time.

Unable to say: I would recommend an evaluation by a sleep specialist because the description raises the issue. Play it on the safe side and schedule a consultation. Not everyone with sleep apnea snores. Shallow breathing or hypopnea can sound like slowed sleep and counts as an apneic episode when scoring the results to come up with a number to determine if you have apnea and how severe it is and whether to treat.

Possible: You do not need to snore to have sleep apnea. Stopping breating is an indication of sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is diagnosed with an overnight sleep study, either at a sleepl lab or using a take home test. Get tested. And get treated if you do have sleep apnea. It can save your life.
