Ortho treatment: Proper orthodontic treatment by a well trained and experienced orthodontist usually improves upon one's profile. The only way to get an accurate answer to your question is to consult with an orthodontist (not a general dentist who only uses invisalign) and discuss what you can expect regarding the result, including any changes in your profile. It requires a careful workup.

Tell your doctor: It is important to share all of your concerns with regard to treatment at the initial consultation with your orthodontist. Confidence that your concerns are being addressed can be determined by your doctors response, as well as viewing pre and post treatment results of other patients that he/she has treated with malocclusions similar to yours.

Facial balance: The face is affected by orthodontics. A study by bowman and johnston published in the angle orthodontists in 2000 and awarded the best article of the year in 2002 showed that both the public and dentists separately preferred the faces of those who had extraction of teeth to those who did not. Extraction treatment is more complex for the clinician, but in a skilled clinicians hands is superior.

Ortho treatment: I am not quite sure if i understand your fear here. You have admitted to "gross malocclusion"! I do not see how straightening your teeth could in any way worsen your profile! especially if you truly have "gross" malocclusion.

See an orthodontist: for evaluation, records and treatment options. While the focus of orthodontic treatment is to correct malocclusions or bad bites, ... with wearing braces, will improve the overall appearance of the facial profile. You may be surprised to learn that orthodontics can improve your profile, lip support and overall facial beauty.
