What are the risks of electrophysiology study (ep) in wpw patients?

Lower than WPW: The risk of eps is very low and is lower than symptomatic wpw.

WPW: Ep study is quite low risk. The risk of a serious WPW arrhythmia is higher than the downside risk of eps. If you add ablation therapy to the eps in a patient with symptomatic WPW the risk remains quite low. Each laboratory has its own statistics and you should ask your ep doc for their stats.

Depends on location: If you have WPW and are considering an ablation for it, then the location of the pathway dictates the risks. Talk to your EP about complications in advance. However, in general terms, if the pathway is close to the AV node, the main risk is needing a pacemaker. If the pathway in on the left side of the heart, there is a risk of puncturing the heart during the transeptal procedure.
