Yes: Tamoxifen is the medical treatment of choice for gynecomastia. If gynecomastia has been there less than 6 mths then medicine can often cause it to shrink. However, if it has been there longer then it often will develop fibrosis or scar tissue and can only be removed at that point with surgery. So surgery is usually recommended when of longer duration or medicine does not work.
