Aphthous ulcers: - which can be isolated - minor aphthae or multiple and large - major aphthae, can cause symptoms as minor as slight irritations to very painful ulcers throughout the mouth and pharynx making it difficult to eat and swallow. Palliative treatment is all that is available. Steroid creams, viscous Lidocaine rinses mixed with Diphenhydramine and kaopectate, (kaolin and pectin) nsaids, and soft tissue laser treatments.

Depends on cause: Aphthous stomatitis involving the common canker sore can occur in up to 15% of americans, and may involve some bacteria like staph epidermidis. However, similar-appearing aphthous ulcers can be seen with herpes, crohn's disease, and other systemic disorders, if you have multiple aphthous ulcers or frequently recurring ones, drop the salt (!) and please have the lesions checked out.

Your description: Sounds like recurrent apthous stomatitis or a trauma ulcer. There is a relationship to immune system issues. These can be painful for days, then they resolve. Avoid acidic foods & toothpaste w sodium lauryl sulfate. Look for zilactin b at your pharmacy. If these lesions are not gone in 10-14 days let ur dentist evaluate the area. There are prescriptions to help as well. Lasers can help. Goodluck.
