Diabetic proteinuria: I am sorry to hear about your daughter. Diabetics get proteinuria (p) from diabetes as well as other causes. Have her see a pediatric nephrologist to have her urine collected for 24 hours, to assess her kidney function and the amount of her p. Blood will also be taken to see if she has any glomerular disease other than diabetes. The duration of her p is dependent on its cause. Good luck.

Type I Diabetes.: One of the complications of uncontrolled diabetes is kidney involvement with micro-albuminuria, a kind of proteinuria. Poorely controlled dm gradually involve other organ system, eg. Eye, nervous system, skin, etc. Talk to her peds endo. About her diabetes control status, involve her in own management. She should be educated and intersted enough. With good control and tx proteinuria will improve.
