Not known: Neuroendocrine carcinomas that originate in the liver are very rare ( about 200 reported cases in english literature). Intestinal neuroendocrine carcinomas that metastasize to the liver are more common, but still rare compared to the usual adult tumors. We do not know what causes any of these tumors.

Metastatic disease : Neuroendocrine cancers is a relatively rare tumor. This cancer can arise in various places, most commonly the pancreas. Carcinoid is a specific type of neuroendocrine tumor occurring in the appendix, small intestine, rectum or lung. Neuroendicrine ca can spread to the liver and while still treatable, it requires a multidisciplinary team and is best managed in dedicated centers with expertise.
